Guides / The overtime mistake
Overtime on Davis-Bacon work has one rule that catches people, and it is backwards from what feels natural.
Overtime is 1.5 times the basic rate. The basic rate, not the full package. Fringe does not get multiplied by 1.5. You pay fringe straight on every hour, including the overtime hours, and you pay time and a half only on the base.
Most of the mistakes go one of two ways. Either someone multiplies the whole package by 1.5, which overpays and looks sloppy, or they forget the overtime line entirely on a week that ran past 40. Both get noticed.
If your week had overtime and you are not sure the split is right, that is exactly the kind of thing worth a second set of eyes before you file.
Send it over and I will check the overtime split against the rate sheet.
